Dr. Joris Mekel, Cardiologist

Dr Mekel is a specialist cardiologist with more than 25 years of experience in general cardiology and 20 years of experience in the management of cardiac arrhythmias.

Dr Mekel provides outpatient-based services at our modern consulting rooms in Mollison Street in Bendigo and has visiting rights at St John of God Hospital in Bendigo and at Bendigo Health for patients who require cardiac procedures and inpatient management.

Dr Mekel is supported by an experienced cardiac technologist and friendly reception staff.

Our Services

Consultation
Dr Mekel provides consultations based on GP or other specialist referrals for patients with suspected or documented heart conditions.
Echocardiography (heart ultrasound)
We provide transthoracic echocardiography using state-of-the-art equipment based on GP or specialist referrals.
ECG's
We provide high-quality 12-lead ECG tracings, including reports, based on GP or other specialist referrals.
Holter EGG's/event monitors
We provide 24-hour ambulatory ECG monitoring, including interpretation, based on GP or other specialist referrals. Longer-term monitoring (up to 7 days) is also available for patients who require extended rhythm monitoring.
Pacemaker and ICD checks
We provide these checks for patients who have had devices implanted by Dr Mekel but also patients who may have had their devices implanted elsewhere who have moved to the Bendigo region.
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
We provide a 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring service for patients with suspected hypertension and for those with diagnosed hypertension to assess the adequacy of their blood pressure control.
